Music: from TV series ‘Glom u Jagode’ (1971). Euro, Installation view at Mala Stanica, National Gallery of Macedonia, 2007.
Video prepared for exhibition ‘Globalwood’ (2007) in Mala Stanica, National Gallery of Macedonia. Curator Ana Frangovska.
This video work entitled ‘EURO‘ refers to Marina Abramovic’s performance Thomas Lips (1975) in which she makes an incision of the communist star onto her body. By using the same procedure of making an incision onto the body, this work questions various convictions (Abramovic’s piece questioned socialism while mine questions capitalism).
In this video project, the incision is not real; it is symbolically manipulated in a manner to represent the pain implicit in such an action, while also revealing the falseness of the society in which we live.
The video material is accompanied by the melody of a popular TV series broadcast in Yugoslavia in the ‘70’s – ‘Glom u Jagode’ (1971). This series represented the essentially peaceful and light- hearted way of life in the ’70, which again makes a comparison between the two socio-political systems.
