2009 – Steirischer Herbst, curated by rotor, center for contemporary art.
Innsbruck International Biennial of Art
Differently designed, the artwork AUSTRIA(N) was exhibited at Innsbruck International Biennial of Art in 2020. For this edition single letter was written on the front of the T-shirts and the work was displayed like washing line, from outside of windows in city of Innsbruck.
The artwork AUSTRIA(N) an intervention in Innsbruck’s public takes the form of multiple hand-painted T-shirts, bearing the title in the native languages of immigrant communities. Like Prlja’s other works, they challenge fixed notions of national identity, proposing an(other) definition of what it means to be Austrian while, at the same time, bracketing that identity as something separate or segregated. Throughout the biennial, the shirts have been displayed on the fasades of different Innsbruck’s buildings.
